Pilot Projects

In order to assist in the implementation of ideas that emerged during the April 2006 meeting, the Foundation invited proposals for pilot projects to address a primary challenge for the museum community: the formulation of a coordinated effort to create new digital assets that are readily able to interface with those of other institutions.

2009 Public presentations:

March 16: Presentation and discussion of the Rembrandt Database during the “Market of Ideas” session at the twelfth annual congress of CODART, the international network for curators of Dutch and Flemish art, in Aachen, Germany.

March 25: Raphael Research Resource presented at Ferrara, Salone del Restauro.

April 23: Mellon Foundation sponsored convening on the topic of Pilot Projects in Conservation Documentation (invitation only, please contact the Foundation's program staff directly to inquire).  The Raphael Research Resource, Rembrandt Database, the Courtauld MFPMFP project, and Southworth & Hawes Daguerreotype Database will be presented and discussed.

April 25: Raphael Research Resource presented at The Association of North American Graduate Programs in Conservation (ANAGPIC) annual conference, Buffalo State College, Buffalo, NY. 

May 19-22: Poster presentation of the Rembrandt Database during the annual conference of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) in Los Angeles.

June 26-27: Presentation of the Rembrandt Database during the international Rembrandt Conference organized by Queen's University at Herstmonceux Castle, United Kingdom.

July 9: Presentation of the Rembrandt Database and the Courtauld MFPMFP project during the Picture Meeting on Documentation, organized by the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN), Amsterdam,

August 19: Presentation of the Rembrandt Database during the Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University 'Dutch Art of the Golden Age: Sources and Perspectives', organized by the RKD, the Rijksmuseum and CODART (International Council of Curators of Dutch and Flemish Art), The Hague. 

September 16-18: Poster presentation of the Raphael Research Resource for 'Studying Old Master Paintings-Technology and Practice', The National Gallery Technical Bulletin 30th Anniversary Conference, organized and hosted by The Scientific Department of the National Gallery, London, UK.

September 19: Presentation of the Raphael Research Resource, Rembrandt Database and the Courtauld MFPMFP project at the ICOM-CC Working Group Paintings interim meeting 'Conservation documentation: on-going projects and perspectives', Wallace Collection, London, UK.

November 4: Raphael Research Resource and the Courtauld MFPMFP will be presented in London at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, organized by the Yale Center for British Art and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
